Moving an aviation check into the Shopify booking flow
A custom Shopify automation collected passenger information during booking, validated it against operational flight constraints and sent the result directly into the team’s existing workflow.

What we did
- Custom Shopify form
- Eligibility logic
- Automation
- Airtable integration
The challenge
Some flight bookings require passenger information to be checked against operational constraints before the booking can be handled correctly.
That check was being completed manually by the operations team after the customer had already entered the booking process.
How we helped
- 01
Collected the information at the right moment
We extended the Shopify add-to-cart flow so the required passenger details were captured as part of the booking itself.
- 02
Automated the operational check
Make.com validated the submitted information against the relevant flight constraints instead of leaving the team to repeat the same check manually.
- 03
Connected it to the tools already in use
Validated records were sent directly into Airtable in real time, fitting the automation into the academy’s existing operational setup.

The outcome
The automation removed roughly 1–2 hours of repetitive operational work every week and remained live for around eight months.
It was eventually superseded by the larger booking-system redesign, which moved the same problem into a more complete self-service experience rather than simply automating the original process.
Insights
Ask at the right moment.
Passenger details are collected while booking, not checked by hand after the customer is already in the process.
Fit into the tools already in use.
Validated records go straight into Airtable, where the team already works.
A good automation can lead to a better product.
After eight months it was replaced by the booking redesign, which solved the same problem more completely.
